flybe to offer through ticketing

flybe have announced that they now support through ticketing. This allows customers to change flights on the flybe network and have their luggage transferred between flights, although passengers are still required to go through security at their intermediate stops. New easyJet winter routes from Manchester and Gatwick

easyJet have put two new winter routes on sale from their Manchester base to Geneva and Sofia, both starting from 11 December 2008. They will also begin flying from London (Gatwick) to Lyon from 03 October.

Vueling and Clickair to merge

Spanish low-cost airlines Vueling and clickair have announced an agreement to merge in an attempt to remain competitive in the European low-cost airline industry. Under the deal announced, Clickair (which is currently owned by incumbent Iberia, who hold an 80% share) will be absorbed into Vueling. More information is available at www.vueling.com.

Girona to Sofia with Wizz Air

Wizz Air will begin flying between the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, and Girona later this year. They will launch twice weekly flights on this route from 15 September 2008.

Helvetic to end scheduled flying

The Swiss low-cost airline, helvetic, have announced that they will end all scheduled flying at the end of the current summer season. They will use the capacity to offer seasonal charter flights, and claim that no staff will be made redundant. helvetic have cited the increasing cost of oil as their reason for making this decision.

New Jet2 routes from Belfast

Jet2 have put two new routes on sale for 2009, including flights from Belfast (International) to Jersey (launching in May 2009) and from Belfast (International) to Mahon (launching in June).

Bari to Malta with Ryanair

Ryanair have announced that they will begin flying between Bari and Malta from 28 October 2008. This will replace a less financially viable route between Malta and Bremen.

Manchester to Sharm el Sheikh this winter

Jet2 will begin a schedule of weekly flying from their Manchester base to Sharm El Sheikh this winter. They currently have an odd schedule which is not continuous throughout the winter season, but provides broad coverage over most of the winter. Flights are available to book from 20 October 2008.
